Your kids will give you exquisite cards for Valentine’s Day after this card-making workshop at the Paper Source store in Palo Alto. That $3.99 “I wheel-y love you” card with a truck on it you got them from Nob Hill won’t seem nearly as nice, and you’ll probably go cry into a box of conversation hearts. But their card to you - that’s what’s important. You might actually keep it this year instead of immediately tossing it into the recycling.

While at Paper Source your child will make four beautiful Valentine’s Day cards, plus you can get 10% off shopping in-store. The class is recommended for ages 8 years and up.

Event Details: Saturday, February 1, 2020, 4:00pm-5:00pm. $25 per person, 6 spaces.

Now it’s your turn after years of watching your kids bring home yet another paint/popsicle stick/googly eye/yarn monstrosity (sorry, teachers who are reading this, I mean “work of art”). We will put out a table of kids’ craft supplies, plus various odds and ends, and you will make the worst piece of art you can. After 1 ½ hours there will be voting on the best bad art, and you better believe there will be tacky trophies. Maybe you will be lucky enough to go home with a silver star with “good job” Sharpie-d across it. We will provide trashy on-theme food (plus some real snacks!), beverages, and encouragement to find your inner Picasso (or Thomas Kinkade as the case may be).

In this urban adventure game, teams will collaboratively solve clues leading to locations on or near Castro Street in Mountain View. Teams will travel on foot to these locations and once there, players must find and use a piece of information at the location to answer a question. (This could be the wording on a historical plaque, a detail in a mural, basically something you might never notice if you weren’t looking for it.) Teams solving the most clues in the shortest time will receive prizes (and bragging rights!). The clues will involve wordplay, puzzles, trivia, anagrams, map reading, and other fun challenges. Clues will range in difficulty, with some solvable by 4th and 5th graders and other designed to challenge the grown-ups. Kids of all ages are great at spotting the bit of information once at clue locations, so it’s a fun and collaborative activity that the whole family can enjoy.

Event Details: Sunday, May 17, 2020, 1:00pm-4:00pm. $35 per family, 30 families.
